5 places to eat and chill in Canggu

Admittedly, Canggu isn’t as popular a destination in Bali as Seminyak or Ubud but I enjoyed staying there as it somehow seemed a little more laid back, and almost every place we went to had a certain Balinese aesthetic that made it a pleasure to be at (and also very photogenic). Here are some places we visited which we really liked:

1. Crate Cafe

Go to for affordable brunch options (prices are 50K and less), opens early and closes late; good choice for instagrammable superbowls that are natural and healthy!

Address:
Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.64, Canggu, Kuta Utara,
Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
Opening Hours:

2. Poke Poke Canggu

Quality poke bowls just a few doors up from Crate Cafe. It’s a little bit small so seats are very limited (plus there’s a swing in the middle of the shop); but the great thing is that they do deliveries! Otherwise, go a little later for seating space. It’s a cute shop with slightly kitschy flamingoes, leis, leaves painted on walls and yes that swing. Small bowls go at 65K, big bowls at 90K. Can’t deny, the bowls are super yummy and the tuna used is really fresh.
P.S. They do those sushi donut things too.

Address:
58 Jalan Batu Bolong, Canggu

3. The Lawn Beach Lounge Canggu

Chanced upon this place by accident but we loved it here. Call me a sucker for kitschy things but I love that they set up a place with fake grass and a clean pool by the otherwise not so stellar beach. Bali doesn’t exactly have the best sand on beaches, so this was a perfect place to lie down, chill with a drink and some light bites and get a tan.

4. Deus Ex Machina – The Temple of Enthusiasm

Okay, the food wasn’t exactly great (a bit heavy handed on the salt) here but the experience was. I don’t really know why it’s called the temple of enthusiasm, but hey, there’s coffee, food, surfboards, skaters, bikes, barbers, and a really cool vibe.

Address:
Jalan Batu Mejan No.8, Canggu, 80361 Bali, Indonesia
Opening Hours:
7am – 10:30pm for all days except Sunday (11pm)

5. One Eyed Jack

We also chanced upon One Eyed Jack after checking out Finn’s – it’s within walking distance and honestly, we were just drawn in by the fact that they offered sake but the food turned out to be amazing. It’s a really nice place for dinner and drinks (buy 1 get 2 cocktail happy hour happens daily between 5-7pm). Try the tuna tatare–it comes served with nori chips. Note: the tacos are tiny, but so good. Also, can be quite pricey due to the Japanese alcohol.
